UPS: Uninterruptible Power Supply
Full
form of UPS is “Uninterruptible PowerSupply”. UPS is a battery which is used to supply power in the absence of
primary source or when supply is cut off. UPS can keep a computer running for
some minutes giving you enough time to save all your data in order not to lose
it.
Battery size is also an important factor in the selection of UPS systems.
Many
UPS’s now offer software which automatically saves your data and shut down your
computer.
Types of UPS System
There
are two types of UPS system:- 1. Online UPS 2. Stand-by Power System
1.
Online UPS : Online UPS supplies uninterrupted power from its
own inverter. It has two drawbacks, first one is that it is more expensive from
the stand-by UPS and other one is that it contain cooling fan which creates a
lot of noise.
2.
Stand-by power
system : Also called offline UPS and
line-interactive UPS. When power is cut off it switches to battery in few
milliseconds. During this time, computer is not receiving any power. This
supply is mostly used in a computer or office supply store.
