Sony Ericsson C905 was supposed to be the first 8-megapixel phone to hit the market. Unfortunately Samsung already launched the INNOV8 and Pixon and LG offers its Renoir.

Aimed to be real digital camera competitor, Sony Ericsson C905 comes with camera-like design.

C905 resembles a pocket digital camera from all sides. It has the same dimensions and weight as the traditional camera.

It's 2.4” display is larger than the other screens in the series (2“ in C902, and 2.2” in К850) although is way behind the competition – 2.8” for INNOV8, 3” for Renoir and 3.2” for Pixon. C902 display specification is QVGA with 262k color support. The quality of images captured is good for indoors and outdoor images. Camera function is provided with Xenon flash, face recognition, and picture tagging.

While all members of the Cyber-shot series family were candybar, C905 comes with a slidding design. It is a slider intended to be used closed as a camera and opened as a phone (it can still act as a camera when opened). On the front, there are two shortcuts for Scenes and Shooting Modes (upper part) and two columns of three buttons on each side of the 5-way D-pad (bottom).

Slidding the phone open, it reveals the numeric keypad. There are channels between the rows of buttons but every row seems to be one body. Here, the drive of the keys is also short, but in contrast to the navigational ones, they have good tactile feedback. In slider phones, the upper row is usually hard to operate, because it’s too close to the edge, but C905 doesn’t have this problem.

Just like the real camera C905 has similar control keys. Those are located on the right side (top when in landscape mode) and they are: a volume/zoom rocker, keys for previewing and changing the shooting modeand the shutter illuminated in blue. The idea for changing the modes is better than the one seen in K850 and INNOV8, employing a 3-way switch. This will allow the user to review the images and go back to shooting by a single press of a button. In K850 and INNOV8 with the 3-way switch you had to always check its position before selecting a mode. The left side houses only the M2 card slot and the one for the charger/headphones.

Unlike K580 that used automatic lid, c905 has manual slidding lid to protect camera lens. However, here it is not protruding but leveled. . Underneath we have “hidden” the Xenon flash and the LED light used for focus assisting and when shooting a video, mini mirror and the lens.

Sony Ericsson C905 is the first non-smartphone of the manufacturer with an integrated Wi-Fi support, which can be used for Internet access and DLNA-compatible devices (e.g. to view pictures on DLNA-capable TV wirelessly).

Sony Ericsson C902 is really stylish handset. It's very slim, measuring just 11mm at its thickest point, yet it also feels rock solid. The black and sliver colour scheme looks suitable classy and there's a cool sliding mechanism -- the top part of the phone slides upward to reveal the camera lens hidden beneath.

It's camera sliding designs with eight touch buttons, arranged in two rows at either side of the screen giving you direct access to camera functions like flash, scene modes and face detection.

On the rear side lies the 5-megapixel sensors. you'll find a micro mirror to help you frame self portraits. Above the lens, there's an LED flash although it is not a xenon flash.

It has been a tradition that Sony Ericsson features the usual easy-to-use menu system. It's built-in accelerometer is really a good thing. Among other fabulous features shall be the music player, earphones and internal memory of 160 MB. You can even expand the storage capacity by adding M2 memory stick card. Standard such as HSPDA, Bluetooth connectivity and secondary camera for video callsare also available.

Enough for the praise, The c902 has certain weaknesses as well. The camera phone response when opening the camera cover may take 4-5 seconds delay before the controls for the camera actually appear on the screen. Similar to this happens when deals with the media player.

The 5-megapixels camera feature is a bargain compare to rival camera phone. Still the quality of images you captured are surely pale to compare with digital camera.

Video recording is mediocre and look pixelated when capturing fast movements.

Can Nokia N96 stand out of the crowd?

Continuing the N-Series Success and tradition, surely N96 wants to have it all. Nokia N96 is trying to provide a high spec to die-hard fans. With a dimension of 103 x 55 x 18 mm and weight of 125 g, N96 has massive storage capacity (16 GB Internal memory and supports microSD up to 8 GB). Trying to be a better successor of the Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia N96 looks attractive with it's2.8" 16M-color TFT LCD display, 5 megapixel autofocus camera and Built-in DVB-H TV tuner. Gamer fans should be happy with it's Dual slide design with dedicated gaming/audio keys and One free N-gage game on the retail package.

Unfortunately the unreasonably hefty price tag does raise some questions. Why Nokia has to put modest battery capacity and the downgraded CPU for N96 anyway? If you watch it's bold and dual-slide design you will find cheap looking keypad that may diminish it's luxurious design. But before you skip this King offer you have to compare it with the near competition.

Nokia N96 all over

Probably the nearest competition to Nokia N96 is Samsung i8510 INNOV8. It trades the DVB-H receiver for an 8 megapixel camera with lens cover, DivX support, DNSe audio technology, and a juicier battery. It also sports an optical joystick, which rocks for browsing. The Innov8 however is slightly more expensive than N96 and it lacks the complimentary stuff (Nokia Maps, 3 months of voice navigation, a free N-gage game and the Transformers movie).

For those with tighter budgets the Nokia N95 8GB might seem a better option. It comes with all the features of N96, save for the DVB-H tuner and the FP2 but packs in a larger battery and faster CPU. The Navi wheel and the dual-LED flash aren't exactly the major upgrades to go on about. Nokia N96 design derrived from N81 even a degradation compare to the looks of Nokia N95 8GB .

Well, it is simply a “short message (as in SMS or text message on your cell phone” of “what are you doing?”. So what is the uniqueness? (other than merely “short message” feature offered by telecomunication operator?). The keyword is it’s public time line feature. Twitter supports not only updating via web but also via SMS and IM (Gtalk). So anywhere and anyhow you can always updates “what you are doing, seeing or thinking of events you are facing”. For instance you are on the way to the office and see a car accident and like to share the indormation to friends or family (or anybody that follows you) you just “twitt” the event through you cell phone or gadget (by using SMS, messenger or mobile applications). This stream of information has been favored on important events like “the tsunami”, Catrina,fire, and many catastrophic events. Even Obama and Clinton has benefited from this feature on their Presidential Campaign.

If you don’t consider twitter as a useful tool for public then you still enjoy the fun of it. You can throw a joke, advice or just greetings to all your followers (friends, family or public) or reply your follower posts (updates). Surely you cannot have this “public time-line” feature on SMS (text message)! Another aspects that you should consider is the “low cost’ factor (compare to SMS). Managing E-mail with a Handheld Device

I am frequently asked this question: “Which handheld device should I buy to best manage my e-mail when I am out of the office?” The answer is: That depends.

Before you buy a handheld device, you need to take a look at your business and determine what functions you would like the device to perform and what features you will need.

In addition to sending and receiving e-mail, will you use the device to manage your contacts? Will you use it to carry around listings from your MLS? Will you use it with your lockbox? The answers to these questions will help you narrow your choice. If all you want the device for is sending and receiving e-mail, your choice will be based on the types of devices supported by your Internet Service Provider.

Another consideration in making your decision is whether or not you need to see/manage your e-mail from anywhere rather than just using the handheld device itself.

Additionally, do you want to share the e-mail with others, such as team members, partners and/or associates?
If the answer to any of these questions is ‘yes,’ then the challenge will be how (and where) to keep copies of all of your e-mail in a readily accessible location that can be accessed over the Internet.

As with most technologies, there is more than one solution.

For instance, I have associates that use one main computer (in the office or home) and then use “Go to My PC” (or a similar service) to access their “main computer” and manage remotely the e-mail resident on their “main computer.”

Benefit: All your e-mail is in one central location and can be easily backed up.

Drawback: If you do not have Internet access, you are cut off from your stored e-mail.

Another solution, used by many, (but not my preferred solution) is to use the setting in your client side e-mail application (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.) that allows you to “leave a copy of mail on server.” This setting is part of the Post Office Protocol (POP) and is located in your e-mail software. While this solution will accomplish your goal of keeping all the e-mail in one place-on the server-the functionality is limiting.

How is This Limiting?

Managing e-mail effectively requires creating an e-mail filing system, comprised of “folders.” So not only do you usually want to leave a copy of mail on the server, you would like to have that mail sorted into appropriate folders for ease of search and retrieval.

Another solution would be to replicate your file management system on your local computer on an Internet server, then with any computer (and/or handheld device) you can access (and manage) the e-mail effectively and efficiently, while still having it on your device for reference when you are not online.

This solution can be accomplished with IMAP.

As explained in last month’s column, setting up an IMAP account in your e-mail manager (on your computer and/or handheld device) is as easy as selecting IMAP instead of POP (in the pull down menu) when setting up your e-mail account in your e-mail manager. In order to be able to do this, your e-mail host must support IMAP. Most first-tier e-mail hosts offer IMAP as an option to or in addition to POP.

Many ISPs do not offer IMAP because e-mail is not their main product; connectivity to the Internet is.

Maintaining an IMAP server requires a lot more resources (hardware/software/human) than the ISPs are willing to invest in e-mail.

Since many ISPs are not being paid to deliver e-mail, but provide connectivity, they take the easiest path-to make available only the POP protocol, which, for mobile professionals, may not provide the best solution.
So in summary, I would suggest you look for an e-mail host that can deliver the functionality you need (like IMAP). RE
